Panama- December 2018

Our first trip to Panama. Not our usual private tour, dashing round visiting 20 destinations; this was a far more relaxed pace. We used Barefoot Panama. They arranged our internal flight, hotels and excursions in Panama City, Gamboa and Boca Chica. We met some lovely people on the tours and had a lot of fun. Our favourite guide by far this trip was Gonzo, he was interesting, knowledgable and very funny.

The one piece of advice we would like to give anyone going to Panama is don't bother doing the canal transit. It took almost a whole day, we were trapped with about 100 other people on a very cramped boat. There was a guide who used a loud speaker system that was deafening and you could not escape from it. After an hour our ears were ringing and we were thoroughly sick of it. Imagine what it was like after 5 hours! - we were dreaming of ways to shut him up (including where to shove his microphone) and we even considered jumping ship.

Definately visit the Miraflores visitor centre and watch the ships go through the lock, that was amazing, but passing through the lock is awful, boring and harmful to the ears.
